BSBSMB401A Trade Contractor Management

This course meets the “Business Managerial Course” requirements for trade contractors licensing as required by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). Successful completion of the Business Managerial Course will be accepted by the QBCC as evidence that the participant meets the Business and Building knowledge requirements to be licensed.

What will I learn?

This course provides you, a qualified Tradesperson, with the additional mandatory Managerial qualification for the QBCC Trade Contractor’s Licence.  This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify and comply with the regulatory, legal, taxation and insurance requirements, and risk management needs of small business.  It covers the specific legal requirements that apply to the management of a small business as required for the QBCC Trade Contractor’s Licence.

On successful completion, you will be granted one Unit of Competency BSBSMB401A Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business.  You will then be able to use this with your trade qualification (Certificate III) to apply for your Trade Contractor’s License with QBCC.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify and comply with the regulatory, legal, taxation and insurance requirements, and risk management needs of small business. Specific legal requirements apply to the management of a small business. This work is undertaken by individuals who operate a small business. The unit is suitable for existing micro and small businesses or setting up a new business or a department in a larger organisation.

What are the pathways?

Having a Trade recognised by the QBCC and having successfully gained the Business Managerial Course (BSBSMB401A) will meet the requirements for applying to the QBCC for a Trade Contractor’s License.

What are the Entry Requirements?

This program does not have any specific entry requirements. However, completion of Year 12 English and Mathematics is recommended.  The program meets the technical qualifications requirement for the Managerial requirements for a Trade Contractors License.
